ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – More than 1,000 Illinois wrestlers are making their way to Rockford this weekend for the state championships.
As 2017 continues, the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says we could see thousands of visitors for new events coming to the Stateline.
The RACVB is calling it a “big win” for Rockford as four major sports tournaments choose the city to host their events which are expected to bring in nearly a million dollars to Rockford.
The RACVB says tournaments like table tennis championships, amateur baseball, Fast Pitch World Series, and the USA Ultimate Frisbee championships will be in the Stateline this year but president John Groh says having returning tournaments like the IKWF wrestling state championship back for its 15th year is helping the city become a destination for large events.
“I think the families love coming here, we know its early march if the IKWF is in Rockford. Repeat customers are excellent customers for any community and we want to keep them coming back for as many years as possible,” says RACVB President John Groh.
