Transform Rockford

A first for the Haas family

Kevin and I are honored to emcee Brooke Road United Methodist Church’s 100th anniversary celebration beginning at 11:30 a.m. May 16 at the Tebala Event Center.

Kevin and I worked together for almost 20 years at the Rockford Register Star. He was still there when I retired in 2020, but moved on to be the managing editor of Rock River Current not long after.

I’m biased, but Rock River Current is the best source of local news in the region.

We have never emceed an event together. This may be the first and the last time. Individually, we have lots of experience in front of an audience. Kevin as a stand-up comedian and me in my role as opinion editor of the Register Star and with my involvement in various nonprofits. (FYI: Kevin will be performing at Prairie Street Brewhouse on April 19. Calvin Evans is the headliner, but you’ll get to hear 40 minutes of Kevin’s material before Calvin takes the stage. The event is almost sold out.)

Brooke Road United Methodist Church has become a community asset under the leadership of Violet Johnicker. The array of services offered there is impressive. Computer access, a small food pantry and much more are available. Soon it will be a Community Healing Resource Center. Check the website for details.

Join the celebration May 16.
