Transform Rockford

Rockford has good stuff – old and new – believe it

Jeff Gauger was the Rockford Register Star’s managing editor from 2005-2007. He worked at the Omaha World Herald before he came here.

He was impressed by Rockford and when it came to developing the Editorial Agenda for 2007 he was passionate about including this item: We’ve got good stuff — believe it.

Even though he wasn’t in Rockford long, he was impressed by the community and was amazed that Rockfordians didn’t appreciate all the great things there are to see and do here.

One of those great things is the Coronado Performing Arts Center. Tuesday is a great day for you to acquaint or re-acquaint yourself with the historic theater.

Thanks to the Friends of the Coronado’s Reach the Star’s program, there’s a free performance on Tuesday of the world-touring of Cirque Mechanics Zephyr. Read about it in the Rock River Current here.

I did a video tour of the Coronado recently. In case you missed it, see it here. For a shorter version done by the Friends of the Coronado, look here.

Rockford also has cool people. Rick Nielsen is one of those and Cheap Trick remains one of the best entertainment experiences there is. It’s exciting to think CheapTrick will open the Hard Rock Casino.

The Coronado is one of Rockford’s gems. Take advantage of this opportunity to check it out in person.

The new Rockford Public Library is due to open this spring. I haven’t toured the facility yet, but I got a taste of what’s there when I read this story and watched the embedded video.

Rockford also has cool people. Rick Nielsen is one of those and Cheap Trick remains one of the best entertainment experiences there is. It’s exciting to think CheapTrick will open the Hard Rock Casino, which may open as soon as late August.

The Coronado, the library and Cheap Trick are reminders of some of the wonderful things we have here. Let’s spend less time dwelling on the negative and more on cheering the good things that this community has to offer.
